More murals!

Took a few more photos of murals this weekend when my sister Maggie was in town. So here they are! With descriptions! Will the wonders never cease! It would be wise, however, not to expect this level of activity in the future…

Firstly, there’s been a few updates on the Solidarity Wall, situated on the Falls Road just around the corner from my work. Here’s the original wall:

But now they’ve replaced Bodenstown, Manchester Martyrs and Fight Racism with Supporting Community Artists:

and Las Brigadas Internacionales:

I had to read up on that last one, the wikipedia entry is here if you’re interested. Full points to Las Brigadas for well designed poster art!

Here’s the same mural, with no car, but slightly out of focus:

And finally, who could forget the Basques! Apparently not the Irish:

You can also see that all three murals are in the process of being finished, which isn’t something you get to see everyday. I honestly think they’ve been waiting for a few months to do these, but the forecast has been so bad for so long they haven’t had a chance. The first time there was a forecast for 2 days without rain, out they came. And were rained on! I also didn’t actually know it was called the Solidarity Wall until I read it in our Lonely Planet when looking for things to do with my sister. I still haven’t heard it referred to as such here, but it sounds nice so we’ll go for it.

From there we travel to the Freedom Corner on the Lower Newtownards Road. Also a nice sounding name, but the murals are a bit more locally focused. I’ll just throw em all in at once as they’re all more or less related to one another:

And, because I love you all, one bonus mural:

That’s all you get for now photo wise. In other news though, more flooding!
